About the event

Set to tour Australia’s wide land in 2022 and 2023, Sionnach Rua’s  Great Irish Song Book brings audiences a lively stage show, with a mix  of Celtic music from Planxty to Van Morrison to the Dubliners. The  brains behind the band, Irishman Gallie, will bring the finest  multi-instrumentalists together, including Paddy Montgomery [Bouzouki, acoustic bass guitar, mandola] Ruth Wise [Fiddle] and Sam Davies [Uilleann Pipes].

The show is an assured crowd pleaser interwoven with rich stories  from Gallie’s upbringing from the streets of Dublin, with tales of Irish  traditions, Irish history, and songs, creating a celebration of Irish  music, new and old, live on stage. It culminates in a showcase of the  finest and entertaining stories expressed in a way that will make you  feel like you are visiting a lively “session” in an Irish bar without  having to travel to Dingle.

Sionnach Rua [pronounced shun-ukh roo-a] is Gaelic, Ireland’s native  language and translates in English to Red Fox. Sionnach Rua is known  throughout Irish mythology and Celtic understanding as a skilful animal,  so it is fitting that this Super-group share its name, given they are  such skilful musicians and entertainers.

Within two months of forming, Sionnach Rua were accepted into  Creative Victoria’s prestigious Showcase Victoria, invited to play at  The National Celtic Folk Festival Portarlington, Victoria, and have  toured from the East of Victoria to the West of Victoria, playing at  Performing Arts Centres to sell out venues and rapturous standing  ovations. They have certainly come to the attention of many Folk  Festivals, with bookings already confirmed for 2023.

They have delighted audiences with an authentic and lively  celebration of Irish Traditional Music, exploring Irish song, tunes,  stories, and airs. Their next project is to record a live album and  release it in the next 6 months.
